Bulk-creates Single or Variable products, with pricing, opening stock and images, from a fixed-column .xls file built on the site's downloadable template.

This screen requires product.create, needs the server's PHP Zip extension enabled, and is subject to the business's product quota — an import that would push the product count over the package limit is blocked. A Download Template File button provides the exact layout to fill in, and an instructions table documents every column in order as required or optional.

Each row needs at least 37 columns, including: Product Name (required), Brand and Category/Sub-Category (auto-created if they don't already exist), Unit and Tax name (these must already exist in the business), SKU (blank auto-generates one; a duplicate is rejected), Barcode Type (defaults to C128), Manage Stock flag, alert quantity, expiry period and type, selling price tax type, Product Type (Single or Variable — Combo rows are silently skipped), variation name/values/SKUs/prices (pipe-separated for Variable products), purchase price, profit margin, selling price, opening stock quantity/location/expiry date, IMEI/Serial toggle, weight, Rack/Row/Position per location, a product image (a local filename or a URL to fetch), description, up to four custom fields, a Not-For-Selling flag, and which business locations sell it.

The whole file is parsed and processed inside one database transaction: the first row that fails validation (a missing name, an unrecognized unit/tax/barcode type, mismatched variation-vs-price counts, a duplicate SKU, and so on) aborts the entire import with that row's specific error message, so nothing is partially saved. Although the upload field also accepts .xlsx and .csv files in the browser picker, only .xls files are actually processed — anything else is rejected after upload.

Step-by-step Workflow

  1. Download the templateClick Download Template File to get the .xls file with the exact 37+ column layout the importer expects.
  2. Fill in product rowsAdd one row per product, following the instructions table for required vs optional columns, using existing unit/tax names and pipe-separated values for Variable products.
  3. Upload the fileSelect the completed .xls file and click Submit.
  4. Fix and retry on errorIf any row fails validation the whole import is rejected with that row's error message; correct it and re-upload.
  5. Verify the resultOn success, review the newly created products, prices and opening stock on the All Products screen.
